Maria Villalobos

The Wolf Without a Pack

She was born of blood and moonlight, but she belongs to no one.

Maria Villalobos was born a werewolf under a lineage steeped in blood, power, and old-world legacy, yet she was raised without the shelter or allegiance of a pack. Though descended from one of Madrid’s most prestigious werewolf families, her parents chose exile over obedience, bringing their daughter to New York and raising her as a lone wolf among humans. That separation shaped Maria into something rare and dangerous: a supernatural being fluent in human law, street violence, and moral ambiguity. When her parents were brutally murdered while she was still a teenager, the crime was never solved, and the city quietly moved on. Maria did not. The loss became the defining force of her life, driving her into law enforcement and ultimately into the NYPD’s Supernatural Crimes Division, where she has built a reputation as a relentless hunter of paranormal criminals.

As a detective, Maria is feared as much as she is respected. Vampires regard her as an executioner disguised as a cop. Werewolves see her as a traitor who enforces human law against her own kind. Humans whisper about her abilities and avoid asking too many questions. Maria herself rejects all labels. She is a professional, not a symbol, and survival has taught her to rely only on her own instincts. Her abilities extend far beyond those of an ordinary werewolf. In addition to enhanced strength, speed, and heightened senses, Maria possesses an innate talent for reading supernatural beings by scent, behavior, and residual magic. Through her mother’s Gitano bloodline, she also carries a rare form of practical magic tied to the body and nervous system, allowing her limited influence over others. Later events further alter her nature, marking her with a forbidden curse that deepens her connection to death and makes her presence unsettling even among the supernatural elite.

Following the assassination of New York’s reigning Alpha, Maria is drawn into a web of supernatural politics she has spent her life avoiding. What begins as a straightforward investigation quickly exposes hidden alliances, ritualized violence, and echoes of crimes long buried, including the unresolved murder of her parents. As she uncovers truths others would prefer remain forgotten, Maria becomes increasingly visible to forces that thrive in shadow. Some see her as a mediator capable of maintaining balance between rival factions. Others see her as a weapon waiting to be claimed. Maria herself continues to walk alone, unaware that her refusal to belong may no longer be a choice she is allowed to make.
